Goyard Launches New Bannière Personalization Style

For many Goyard shoppers, the bags themselves are only part of the brand’s tremendous draw—they’re a canvas to create something unique. Because Goyard offers such detailed and wide-ranging personalization services, clients can have almost anything hand-painted onto their new bag or trunk that they can imagine. The brand offers a starting point with a few standard monogram styles, and now it’s adding a new one to the lineup: Goyard Bannière Millesime Marquage.

“Bannière” literally means “banner” in French, and as you can see, that refers a a three-stripe ribbon that can now unfurl down the front of your Goyard St. Louis Tote, among others—it’s available on trunks and small leather goods, in addition to handbags, and comes in broad color choices.

We don’t have specific pricing for this new personalization style, but based on comments from our PurseForum, it’s more expensive than the existing standard stripes and letters. And that makes sense—creating the sense of movement that Bannière has is more difficult and labor-intensive than creating straight lines, and the overall design is also quite large.

Goyard has launched this design with the Bannière Marquage US Tour, which might be coming to a boutique or department store near you and allows shoppers to meet the artisans. If the tour has already been to your city or you’re outside the US, you can still request Bannière personalization through your boutique.

Personally, I love the playful, lighthearted feel of the waving ribbon pattern. Let us know how you feel about it in the comments!

Goyard, a French brand known for making trunk and leather goods since 1853 is now making headlines with its newest Millesime marquage design this 2017. Without further ado, here is the Goyard Banniere Print in all its splendor.

“Banniere”, a French word which literally means “Banner” is a celebration of one’s own personality and uniqueness. What does that mean? If you take a look at these Goyard Banniere Print, you’ll notice that they feature a beautiful interaction of geometric prints in stripes. The Banniere Print features a stripe pattern in a variety of the brand’s color combination and you can choose which one caters to your own liking.

As if floating, playfully fluttering in the wind, these stripes can be personalized to your own preferences. With a number of colors that you can choose from, you will never run out of stripe color mixture ideas. The Goyard Banniere Print can be monogrammed on several Goyard trunks, suitcases, bags, and even on small leather goods! What’s more exciting is the fact that you can personally meet a painter for private consultation during Goyard’s Marquage Tours.

Goyard creates a special edition travel set for Peninsula hotels

The Peninsula Arcade at The Peninsula Hong Kong will play host to Legendary Artisans campaign during the month of June this year. At the event, French trunk maker Goyard will reveal an exclusive ‘Special Edition Peninsula Travel Set’ that will include their classic Bourget wheeled suitcases and a brand new style of toiletry bag called the ”Jouvence.” These items will flaunt leather hue inspired by the “Peninsula Green” of The Peninsula Hotels’ Rolls-Royce fleets.

The travel set has been created exclusively for the Peninsula Hotels and will be available only in Hong Kong. The collection will also mark the debut of two new products: a large size version of the Bourget wheeled suitcase and the brand new Jouvence toiletry bag in middle size. A black lining will replace the usual yellow for the bags and cases in the special edition collection.

We love the distinctive green color of the collection. The color is an important part of the Peninsula brand considering it’s been used for The Peninsula Hotels’ fleets of Rolls-Royces and luxury limousines around the world since the first fleet of seven Rolls-Royce Silver Shadows debuted at The Peninsula Hong Kong in 1970.

Goyard St. Louis Tote Bag versus Moynat Cabas Initial Tote Bag

In this latest issue of ‘Bag Versus‘, we pit two similar shopping totes from French design houses Goyard and Moynat. With rumblings that as of Sept. 1, 2014 prices for classic Goyard St. Louis Tote bags are going up (prices are now updated) including specialty pricing on red dye, it’s time to look at whether there are other alternatives to this popular classic monogram style.  The little known french design house Moynat was revived by LVMH in 2011 after its subsequent acquisition in 2010.  Moynat created a similar classic bag with a monogram style that could potentially rival Goyard’s popular bag.

The classic shopping tote bags from both brands have similarities. Both feature the same light weight design made of coated canvas and signature monogram print.  Both brands also allow for personalization with the ability to include your initials and ribbon design.  The pricing on monogram services is slightly more for Moynat; however, the brand allows multiple designs versus the standard linear designs (check-out the Moynat Tumblr for examples).

Monogram Differences

Goyard versus Moynat (left to right)

The most obvious difference when viewing Goyard versus Moynat is that Goyard’s monogram has a very distinct 3D style that is not produced in the ‘flat’ monogram print from Moynat. Goyard also has more intricate detailing that appears on top of each ‘Y’ that appears as tiny little dots.  It also includes Goyard St. Honore inscription in specific areas of the print that appear in bold, which are also in 3D.

Bag Construction

Goyard St. Louis totes are unfortunately prone to reports of the sealant cracking on the base of the handles even shortly after carrying the bag.  Part of the reason that this could happen is that the weight distributed on the handle attached to the tote is not designed very well.  See the comparison of the stiching around the base of the handles. The five double stitched edges are not enough to carry the weight of items carried in the bag resulting in prolonged stress on the base of the strap. On the other hand, the Moynat Cabas version has the same type of stitching that also appears onLouis Vuitton Neverfull bags, where the stitches are placed all around the base of the strap.  The strap attachment on Moynat is also larger than the Goyard.

Price Differences

The Goyard St. Louis PM tote bag in black monogram is priced at €700 VAT incl. (increasing to €750) and special colors start at €910 (increasing to €975).  The Moynat PM version only comes in one type of monogram at the moment Sepia and and Brown, priced at €690 VAT incl., currently no special colors are available.

Although both bags are similar in design, the Moynat Cabas Initial bag is the winner, by a hair, in this case. The main consideration is at the price for a coated canvas bag one would expect that the bag would last forever.  In the case of Goyard, if you use the bag as your main city bag you may encounter problems with cracking straps. If the design changed slightly to improve the weight distribution, the Goyard St. Louis tote would be the winner due to its very unique and coveted design.

Are You a Goyard Person?

PurseBlog Asks Goyard

Last week, Chavie Lieber of Racked interviewed me for an in-depth look at the cult of Goyard. It’s a brand unlike any other we cover; even Hermès, in all of its tradition and conservatism, still debuts seasonal collections at Paris Fashion Week, sells a portion of its product line on its website and has boutiques in all the world’s major luxury markets. Goyard, on the other hand, does none of that, but it retains an ardent following and seems to attract new, younger customers, despite no advertising, an extremely limited retail presence and as little interaction with the media as you could imagine. What gives?

When Lieber asked me why I thought Goyard continued to attract customers despite its general rejection of all commonly used methods of doing exactly that, I balked. Having never found any of Goyard’s bags particularly compelling, it’s not a question I could answer from personal experience with my own shopping urges, and it’s not one I’ve ever seen Goyard’s loyal horde of customers discuss in any detail. If you’re a loyal Goyard fan, we want to hear from you.

What first attracted you to Goyard’s products, and how did you learn about the brand? Goyard’s website proudly proclaims that it doesn’t make seasonal products, so how does the brand hold your interest? Does celebrity affection for the brand, particularly the lightweight St. Louis totes, help or hinder your love for Goyard? Do you wish that the brand provided more variety, or is the brand’s ultra-traditional approach and distaste for the spotlight part of the magic?

Hilary Duff Doubles Up with Bags from Louis Vuitton and Goyard

CATEGORIES:Louis Vuitton

Hilary Duff Louis Vuitton Empreinte Speedy Goyard St. Louis Tote

Here’s Hilary Duff, leaving a fitness studio in West Hollywood, carrying a Louis Vuitton Speedy Empreinte 25 Bandoulière Bag and a Goyard St. Louis Tote. Strangely enough, we’ve seen Hilary carry both of these bags before, which is a definite first/sign of the end times. We know from extensive research that Hilary uses her many lightweight, durable Goyard totes as diaper bags and gym bags fairly frequently. Goyard doesn’t sell its bags online, but you can find Hilary’s Speedy for $2,840 at Louis Vuitton.

Hilary Duff’s handbag collection seems to expand exponentially with every passing season. If you feel the need to keep abreast of every Duff acquisition in recent history, you’ve certainly come to the right place. Though, be warned: it’s an alarming amount of handbags. Check out“The Many Bags of Hilary Duff” and “The Many Bags of Hilary Duff, Part 2.”
